A Clinical Study on Fetal Death in Utero

Abstract
Fetal death in utero is defined as the intrauterine death after 20 weeks gestation, weighing mor than 500gm prior to the complete expulsio from its mother.
This is a clinicla study of 109 cases of the fetal death in utero among 5,187 deliveries at Seoul Paik Hospital from Jan. 1987 to Dec. 1992.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. The incidence of the fetl death in utero was 2.1%.
2. The age distrubution of mothers with the fetal death in utero was 21~43 years and was highest in the 25~29 years range(51.4%).
3. The parity of mothers with the fetal death in utero waas highest in unlliparous group(62.4%).
4. There were 18 cases(16.5%) with previous history of spontaneous abortion and 10 cases(9.2%) with previous history of fetal death in utero.
5. The most common gestational week when the fetal death in utero was siagnosed was 20~24 weeks f gestation(28.5%) and the most common presentation ws cephalic(59.6%).
The sex ratio of male vs female fetus was 1 : 1.06 and 81.7% of the fetal death in utero weighed less than 2, 500gm.
6. According to the mode of delivery for the fetal death in utero, induciton of labor was most common(53.2%) and spontaneous delivery was 33%.
7. The etiologic factors of the fetal death in utero was unexplained(59.6%), congenital anomaly(22.9%) abruptio placentae(10.1%), and toxemia of pregnancy(3.7%).
8. There were 11 cases(10.1%) of maternal complication and the most common was bleeding(63.6%).
